Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning (PC) Review
Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning is a massively multiplayer online role playing game based on Games Workshop’s Warhammer Fantasy setting. It was developed by Mythic Entertainment and was released in September 2008. War is the focus in Warhammer Online.
Player takes on the role of a soldier in the armies of Order or Destruction and wage war across the three zones: High Elves vs. Dark Elves, Greenskins vs. Dwarves, and Chaos vs. Empire. Each zone is divided into four tiers. The tiers are then divided into Player vs. Enemy (PvE) and Realm vs. Realm (RvR) areas.
In Warhammer Online, character customization is available in many forms. Warhammer Online features collision detection that is designed to prevent players from moving through other player characters.
Next are player-versus-player (PvP) scenarios, which are faction battles with Order players, combating Destruction players.
Then there are the realm-versus-realm (RvR) battles, which take place on the world map in areas and are battles to seize strategic keeps.
Another feature is the Tome of Knowledge, a repository of all game information. Every monster, location, event, and quest the player experiences are logged in this encyclopedic, easily-referenced record.
Then there are public quests, which are basically short-story quests that players can join and end by entering and leaving a certain area.
You can explore enormous living cities that become more or less prosperous based on a Realm’s overall performance in the ongoing war.
There are advanced features that offer unparalleled control to leaders and members, and make guilds an integral part of the war efforts. The audio and visuals are well done.
Overall, Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning is a well balanced and fun MMO that has had one of the smoothest launches to date. All these features make Warhammer Online a great game, though this direct focus on PVP combat noticeably detracts from its other facets.
